Tazio Nuvolari Signed Auto Union Driver Postcard

A superb original official Auto Union driver postcard personally signed and inscribed by legendary Italian racing driver Tazio Nuvolari.

Presented in exceptional condition, the postcard features a striking period portrait of Nuvolari wearing his traditional racing helmet and goggles. Across the lower portion, Nuvolari has added a personal inscription together with his unmistakable flowing signature, creating an outstanding example of one of the most desirable autographs in pre-war motor racing.

Produced as an official Auto Union postcard, the piece dates from one of the most significant chapters of Nuvolari’s extraordinary career. He joined the German manufacturer during the 1938 season and quickly demonstrated his remarkable ability behind the wheel of its powerful and notoriously demanding rear-engined Grand Prix cars. Driving for Auto Union, Nuvolari won the 1938 Italian Grand Prix at Monza and the Donington Grand Prix, followed by victory in the 1939 Yugoslav Grand Prix—the final major Grand Prix held before the outbreak of the Second World War.

Known throughout the racing world as “The Flying Mantuan,” Tazio Nuvolari is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most courageous drivers in motorsport history. Competing in both motorcycles and motor cars, his career included victories in the Monaco Grand Prix, Mille Miglia, Targa Florio and 24 Hours of Le Mans, as well as the 1932 European Drivers’ Championship.

Perhaps his most celebrated achievement came at the 1935 German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring. Driving an ageing Alfa Romeo P3, Nuvolari defeated the technologically superior Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union teams in front of a vast German crowd. The victory remains one of the greatest upsets in Grand Prix history and perfectly illustrates the determination, skill and fearlessness that defined his career.

Original signed material relating to Nuvolari’s Auto Union period is particularly prized. Combining an official factory-issued postcard, an evocative period portrait, a personal inscription and a beautifully preserved signature, this is an exceptional piece of motor racing history.
