An original race-used Honda Racing F1 Team suit worn by Rubens Barrichello during the 2008 Formula One World Championship, representing the final season of Honda’s works Formula One operation before its transformation into the championship-winning Brawn GP team for 2009.
The suit features Honda’s unmistakable Earthdreams design, one of the most distinctive liveries of the era. Finished predominantly in white, it carries the green and blue environmental graphics associated with the Honda RA108, together with prominent Honda, Bridgestone, NTN, ENEOS and Earthdreams branding. The reverse is particularly striking, dominated by the large globe graphic and “HONDA – The Power of Dreams” branding.
Barrichello’s name appears to the collar, while the waist belt carries the official Honda Racing F1 Team identification.
The 2008 season was an important chapter in Barrichello’s extraordinarily long Formula One career. Racing alongside Jenson Button, Barrichello scored points at Monaco and Canada before producing one of Honda’s standout performances of the season at a rain-soaked British Grand Prix at Silverstone, finishing third and securing Honda’s only podium of the year.
The season would also prove to be Honda’s last as a works constructor before the company withdrew from Formula One at the end of 2008. The foundations of the Honda team were subsequently acquired by Ross Brawn and became Brawn GP, which remarkably won both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ World Championships the following season. This gives surviving team equipment from Honda’s final campaign an additional layer of historical importance.
Barrichello himself remains one of the great enduring figures of modern Formula One. A multiple Grand Prix winner and former Ferrari driver, his career spanned an extraordinary 19 seasons, placing genuine race-used equipment from his Formula One career firmly amongst the most desirable forms of driver memorabilia.
With its instantly recognisable Earthdreams design, strong Honda identity and unquestionable visual presence, this is a superb piece of original Formula One race-used memorabilia from Rubens Barrichello’s final season with Honda Racing F1 Team and a fascinating artefact from the team that was about to become one of Formula One’s greatest underdog stories.
