Peter Collins Signed Official Ferrari Factory Issued Portrait Postcard

This exceptional and historically significant official Ferrari Factory portrait postcard has been personally signed by Peter Collins, one of Britain’s most beloved Formula One drivers and a key figure in Ferrari’s golden era of Grand Prix racing. A rare and authentic signature, this piece was signed by Collins at the height of his career with Scuderia Ferrari – the team with which he secured his most famous victories before his tragic death in 1958.

Peter Collins joined Ferrari in 1956 as part of Enzo Ferrari’s elite driver lineup alongside Juan Manuel Fangio, Luigi Musso, and Mike Hawthorn. Despite his youth, Collins quickly proved himself to be one of the fastest and most naturally gifted drivers of his generation. That same year he claimed his maiden Formula One victory at the 1956 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps driving the legendary Ferrari D50. Weeks later he triumphed again at the French Grand Prix at Reims, solidifying his reputation as a future World Champion.

Collins became internationally admired not only for his speed but also for one of the most selfless acts in F1 history: at the 1956 Italian Grand Prix at Monza he voluntarily handed his car over to teammate Fangio, sacrificing his own championship hopes to help the Argentine secure his fourth World Championship. This moment remains one of the most iconic displays of sportsmanship ever witnessed in Formula One.

In 1957 Collins continued as a Ferrari team leader and was widely tipped as a title contender. By 1958 he was in peak form, winning the British Grand Prix at Silverstone in front of an ecstatic home crowd and becoming a serious challenger for the World Championship alongside Hawthorn and Stirling Moss. His natural flair and fearless style made him one of the most exciting drivers of the 1950s.

Tragically, Collins’ career – and life – were cut short at the 1958 German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring. While chasing Tony Brooks’ Vanwall in his Ferrari 246, Collins lost control at the Pflanzgarten section of the circuit and was thrown from the car. He suffered severe head injuries and died later that day at only 26 years old. His death shocked the racing world and remains one of the most heartbreaking losses in Formula One history.

Signed Ferrari items from Peter Collins are exceptionally scarce due to his short life and career, making this official Ferrari portrait postcard a highly desirable investment-grade piece for serious Formula One and Scuderia Ferrari collectors.
