An original period press photograph documenting the aftermath of Alberto Ascari’s fatal accident at Monza on 26 May 1955. Ascari, twice Formula One World Champion with Ferrari in 1952 and 1953, was one of motor racing’s most gifted and admired figures.
The accident occurred during a private test session at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, where Ascari was driving a Ferrari 750 Monza sports car. Although he had not originally been scheduled to drive that day, he took the car out for a short run and crashed on his third lap at the fast Curva del Vialone, later associated with the Ascari name. He succumbed to his injuries shortly afterwards.
This photograph is a sombre and historically significant piece of motor racing history, connected to one of the sport’s most respected champions. It is offered as an original press artefact from the period, preserving an important but tragic moment in motorsport.
