Hours after this image was captured, Portago would lose his life in this very car, alongside his co-driver Edmund Nelson, when a tyre failure caused a fatal crash near Guidizzolo. The accident not only ended their lives but also marked the tragic conclusion of the Mille Miglia as a high-speed road race. This event created the backdrop to the 2023 movie ‘Ferrari’.
