An exceptionally rare Michael Schumacher signed 1996 1/2 scale helmet, produced in period by Bell S.P.O.R.T.S and recreating Schumacher’s distinctive helmet design from his first season with Ferrari.
Unlike most modern half-scale helmets, which rely heavily on decals and printed finishes, these early Bell examples were produced to an extraordinary standard. The helmet has been professionally painted throughout, closely replicating the construction and finish of Schumacher’s full-size race helmet. Even the white areas feature a beautiful pearlescent paint finish, creating impressive depth and reflections when viewed under light.
Michael Schumacher has personally hand signed the painted surface to the rear of the helmet. The autograph is particularly well executed, remaining exceptionally bold and clear with excellent contrast against the surrounding artwork.
1996 represented a significant chapter in Schumacher’s career as he joined Ferrari following his back-to-back World Championships with Benetton. It marked the beginning of the partnership that would ultimately become one of the most successful combinations in Formula One history.
These period Bell S.P.O.R.T.S half-scale helmets are considerably rarer than later commercially produced replicas and are highly regarded for their quality and attention to detail. Combined with an outstanding period Schumacher autograph, this makes for an increasingly difficult piece to source.
The helmet displays some age-related wear consistent with a motorsport artefact now approximately 30 years old. No original packaging is present.
