This exceptionally rare signed and typed letter from Jackie Stewart dates to 1962, offering a fascinating glimpse into the formative years of one of motorsport’s greatest figures—before his rise to international fame in Formula 1.
Written from Dumbuck Garage, the Stewart family business located in Milton, Dumbarton—the town of his birth—the letter is addressed to noted motoring journalist and author Eric Dymock. At this stage in his life, Stewart had not yet embarked on his professional racing career, making surviving material from this period are rare and highly sought after by collectors.
In the letter, Stewart apologises to Dymock for not being able to say goodbye at London Airport, a small but telling gesture that reflects his humility and character even before global recognition.
