Giuseppe Farina Signed 1936 Alfa Romeo Driver Card

A highly important original 1936 Alfa Romeo driver postcard, personally signed and inscribed by Giuseppe “Nino” Farina—one of the defining figures of pre-war Grand Prix racing and the man who would become Formula One’s first World Champion.

The period postcard features a striking portrait of Farina wearing his racing goggles, with the Alfa Romeo name and emblem printed beneath. Farina has added a personal inscription and his distinctive signature in blue ink across the upper portion of the image. Measuring approximately 5.9 × 4.1 inches (150 × 105 mm), the postcard displays expected age-related marks and handling wear, giving it an evocative and authentic period appearance.

The year 1936 represents an especially significant moment in Farina’s career. Having impressed in privately entered Alfa Romeos and Maseratis, he joined the Scuderia Ferrari-operated Alfa Romeo Grand Prix team. During the season, he produced a remarkable drive to finish second in the Mille Miglia, reportedly completing part of the event in darkness without functioning headlights.

After the interruption of the Second World War, Farina returned to the highest level of international motor racing. In 1950, he drove the dominant Alfa Romeo 158 and won the inaugural Formula One World Championship Grand Prix at Silverstone from pole position, also recording the fastest lap. Further victories in Switzerland and Italy secured Farina the first Formula One World Drivers’ Championship, defeating his celebrated Alfa Romeo teammate Juan Manuel Fangio.

Farina’s life came to a tragic end on 30 June 1966. While driving his Lotus Cortina through the Alps on his way to attend the French Grand Prix at Reims, he lost control on an icy section of road near Chambéry and struck a telegraph pole. He was 59 years old.

An exceptional and historically significant autograph dating from Farina’s formative pre-war association with Alfa Romeo. Material signed by the inaugural Formula One World Champion is highly desirable, while an original Alfa Romeo card from as early as 1936 offers a particularly direct connection to the beginnings of his distinguished Grand Prix career.
