This Bell racing helmet was extensively used by legendary British racing driver David Piper throughout the 1960s and 1970s, during one of the most iconic eras of sports car racing
The helmet has been photo-matched to numerous key events in Piper’s distinguished career, including his time as a Ferrari factory works driver at the 1969 24 Hours of Le Mans, where he piloted the Ferrari 312P alongside Pedro Rodríguez
Further photographic evidence confirms that this very helmet was worn while driving the Ferrari 412P at Brands Hatch in 1967 with Richard Attwood. Along with photo matched driving the legendary Ferrari 250 GTO at Goodwood, Ferrari 365 P2 at Brands Hatch 1965 and Porsche 917 in 1969
After spending several decades in a private collection, the helmet was recently reacquired and presented to David Piper himself for inspection and verification. He personally signed the top of the helmet for us, affirming its authenticity and remarkable provenance
